negociar acuerdos y compromisos que impulsen la conservaci\u00f3n de la biodiversidad mundial<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>En Canc\u00fan se desarrollar\u00e1n los trabajos de la 13 Conferencia de las Partes (COP 13) del Convenio sobre Diversidad Biol\u00f3gica (CDB) de Naciones Unidas, donde delegados de 196 pa\u00edses, investigadores, cient\u00edficos, as\u00ed como autoridades de los tres niveles de gobierno se dar\u00e1n cita para negociar acuerdos y compromisos que impulsen la conservaci\u00f3n y uso sustentable de la biodiversidad.<\/p>\n<p>Durante las actividades de la COP 13, que se realizar\u00e1n del 4 al 17 de diciembre, se esperan cerca de 10 mil participantes, quienes analizar\u00e1n el cumplimiento del Plan Estrat\u00e9gico para la Diversidad Biol\u00f3gica 2011-2020.<\/p>\n<p>En el marco de la COP 13 tambi\u00e9n se celebrar\u00e1n diversos eventos de difusi\u00f3n, exposiciones, presentaciones, ferias, foros (negocios, sociedad civil, j\u00f3venes, pueblos ind\u00edgenas y comunidades locales, ciudades y gobiernos subnacionales).<\/p>\n<p>La informaci\u00f3n desplegada en la p\u00e1gina oficial refiere que la COP 12 tuvo lugar en Pyeongchag, Corea del Sur, en el 2014, y ah\u00ed tras las conclusiones de los trabajos eligieron M\u00e9xico como punto del siguiente encuentro, por lo que en marzo de este a\u00f1o, durante la visita al pa\u00eds del secretario ejecutivo de la CDB, Braulio Ferreira de Souza Dias, se determin\u00f3 a Canc\u00fan como sede de la Conferencia.<\/p>\n<p>Al celebrarse en M\u00e9xico la COP13,\u00a0 los participantes reconocen el liderazgo\u00a0 del pa\u00eds en conocimiento e implementaci\u00f3n de estrategias para la conservaci\u00f3n y uso sustentable de su patrimonio natural, as\u00ed como su condici\u00f3n de ser una naci\u00f3n megadiversa.<\/p>\n<p>El compromiso de M\u00e9xico es dar un espacio propicio para el desarrollo de los trabajos de la COP 13 a efecto de dar cumplimiento a los objetivos de la Convenci\u00f3n y las Metas de Aichi (aprobadas en 2010 en Nagoya, Jap\u00f3n, durante la COP 10), cuyo prop\u00f3sito central gira en abordar las causas de la p\u00e9rdida de la diversidad biol\u00f3gica, mediante la incorporaci\u00f3n de la diversidad biol\u00f3gica en todo el gobierno y la sociedad.<\/p>\n<p>Esta ser\u00e1 la primera vez que la COP13 sesione de manera simult\u00e1nea con la Conferencia de las Partes del CDB y las Reuniones de las Partes de los Protocolos de Cartagena (MOP 8) y Nagoya (COP-MOP2).<\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan el\u00a0 sito http:\/\/cop13.mx\u00a0 M\u00e9xico firm\u00f3 el Convenio sobre Diversidad Biol\u00f3gica (CDB) de Naciones Unidas en 1992 y un a\u00f1o despu\u00e9s fue el primer pa\u00eds en ratificarlo.<\/p>\n<p>Adem\u00e1s es uno de los principales actores en las negociaciones del Convenio y los Protocolos de Cartagena sobre Seguridad de la Biotecnolog\u00eda, vigente desde 2003, y Nagoya en la de Acceso a Recursos Gen\u00e9ticos y Reparto de Beneficios, en vigor desde el 12 de octubre de 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Cabe destacar que M\u00e9xico alberga entre el ocho y el 12% de las especies del mundo, a pesar de que la extensi\u00f3n de nuestro pa\u00eds es de alrededor del 1.5% de la superficie terrestre del planeta. <strong>(Jazm\u00edn
