Es muy emocionante\u201d.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Una inversi\u00f3n de 200 mdd en proyectos varados, particularmente Puerto Canc\u00fan, fue lo que le vali\u00f3 la portada de<strong> Latitud 21<\/strong> al empresario estadounidense Michael Eugene Kelly. Este proyecto de Fonatur, anunciado en el sexenio salinista por un grupo de empresarios italianos y\u00a0 cuya suerte pas\u00f3 de inversionistas a inversionistas a lo largo de 13 a\u00f1os fue considerado el m\u00e1s ambicioso de la historia del Caribe mexicano.<\/p>\n<p>Kelly destin\u00f3 tan s\u00f3lo en infraestructura 120 mdd, con fecha de arranque en 2004 con un proyecto que contemplaba un campo de golf de 18 hoyos, dise\u00f1ado por Tom Weiskopf, en seis hect\u00e1reas, estacionamientos, residencias, centros comerciales, tres resorts con cuatro mil 179 habitaciones, malec\u00f3n y una marina que alberga 175 embarcaciones de hasta 125 pies de eslora,\u00a0 350 lotes residenciales. Incluso est\u00e1 concebido para ser el principal puerto de abrigo y servicios para la flota recreativa del Caribe, todo en una superficie de 327 hect\u00e1reas, menos 74.5 destinadas a la conservaci\u00f3n del manglar. La mayor parte del proyecto se concret\u00f3, excepto los centros comerciales y los tres resort.<\/p>\n<p>La conclusi\u00f3n de su actividad empresarial en M\u00e9xico se vio truncada cuando en diciembre de 2006 Kelly fue detenido por el FBI acusado de fraude por 428 mdd contra mil 300 pensionados estadounidenses. El Grupo Kelly de Canc\u00fan report\u00f3, al cierre fiscal de 2007, ventas por m\u00e1s de 200 millones de d\u00f3lares en los proyectos que desarrollaba y que estaban vendidos en 60 por ciento. Posteriormente, para recuperar parte del monto defraudado en 2008, en un remate virtual hecho por el gobierno de los Estados Unidos se vendieron: la discoteca The City, en 25 mdd; los hoteles Grand Avalon, en 75 mdd; Avalon Reef Club Isla Mujeres, en 70, y Avalon Excalibur Acapulco, tambi\u00e9n en 70 mdd. En septiembre de 2012 el grupo m\u00e9xico-norteamericano MIRA Companies adquiri\u00f3 por 65 mdd el 100% de los activos de Promotora de Desarrollos de Puerto Canc\u00fan que quedaban, con lo que se finiquit\u00f3 en su totalidad la participaci\u00f3n de Grupo Kelly en el proyecto.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/l21.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/grupo-kelly-a-una-decada.png\" data-rel=\"penci-gallery-image-content\" ><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-2616\" title=\"grupo kelly a una decada\"
