muerto hoy\u201d, confirmaron sus hijos Lucy, Robert y Tim.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201c\u00c9l fue un gran cient\u00edfico y un extraordinario hombre cuyo trabajo legado vivir\u00e1 por muchos a\u00f1os\u201d, a\u00f1adieron.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">Destacaron su coraje y persistencia y afirmaron que su genio y humor ha inspirado a las personas alrededor del mundo.<\/p>\n<p>Desafiando todos los pron\u00f3sticos, Hawking, nacido el 8 de enero de 1942 en la ciudad inglesa de Oxford, logr\u00f3 sobrevivir a una destructiva enfermedad cuyos afectados suelen tener una expectativa de vida de entre dos y cinco a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<p>En 1963, a los 21 a\u00f1os, se le diagnostic\u00f3 con esclerosis lateral amiotr\u00f3fica (ELA), una dolencia degenerativa que le postr\u00f3 en una silla de ruedas y le oblig\u00f3 a comunicarse mediante una computadora que manejaba con los m\u00fasculos faciales.<\/p>\n<p>Doctor por la universidad de Cambridge, donde entre 1979 y 2009 ocup\u00f3 la misma c\u00e1tedra de matem\u00e1ticas que fue de Isaac Newton, fue reconocido por sus rompedoras teor\u00edas, en particular la de la \u00abradiaci\u00f3n Hawking\u00bb, relativa a los agujeros negros.<\/p>\n<p>Aunque no pudo demostrarlo emp\u00edricamente, el mundo de la ciencia est\u00e1 en su mayor\u00eda convencido de que los agujeros negros efectivamente emiten esa radiaci\u00f3n, que lentamente causa su evaporaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Su teor\u00eda sobre la formaci\u00f3n del universo, y el consiguiente inicio del tiempo, con el Big Bang hace 15 mil millones de a\u00f1os a partir de un evento \u00absingular\u00bb que rompi\u00f3 las leyes de la f\u00edsica, le vali\u00f3 tambi\u00e9n multitud de seguidores, pero no as\u00ed el premio Nobel, que le eludi\u00f3 por la falta de pruebas concluyentes.<\/p>\n<p>En todo caso, el cient\u00edfico ingl\u00e9s, que rompi\u00f3 r\u00e9cords de ventas con su libro de 1988 \u00abA Brief History of Time\u00bb, acumula multitud de condecoraciones y galardones, entre ellos el Premio Pr\u00edncipe de Asturias (1998) y el Premio Fundaci\u00f3n BBVA Fronteras del Conocimiento
