Los investigadores de la Universidad del Sur de la Florida lograron localizar el sargazo a trav\u00e9s de observaciones satelitales, se\u00f1alaron a Newsweek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La concentraci\u00f3n de algas fue llamada el \u201cGran Cintur\u00f3n de Sargazo del Atl\u00e1ntico\u201d (GASB por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s). Mide 8,851 kil\u00f3metros y se extiende desde la costa de \u00c1frica Occidental hasta el Golfo de M\u00e9xico, y estiman que pesa unas 20 millones de toneladas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los investigadores se\u00f1alaron que el sargazo atrae a animales como peces, aves y tortugas, adem\u00e1s producen ox\u00edgeno.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEn el oc\u00e9ano abierto, el sargazo proporciona un h\u00e1bitat esencial y refugio para todo tipo de animales marinos\u201d, dijo Wang a Newsweek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sin embargo cuando llega a las playas provoca un olor f\u00e9tido que se traduce en p\u00e9rdidas econ\u00f3micas. Adem\u00e1s, las grandes concentraciones pueden impedir el movimiento o la respiraci\u00f3n de algunos animales marinos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los investigadores analizaron 20 a\u00f1os de datos satelitales, as\u00ed como informaci\u00f3n sobre la deforestaci\u00f3n y uso de fertilizantes en el Amazonas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seg\u00fan sus an\u00e1lisis, las descargas de nutrientes desde el r\u00edo Amazonas hacia el Atl\u00e1ntico podr\u00eda estar alentando el crecimiento del sargazo en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fuente: Animal
